WHAT EXACTLY IS ANIME?
Anime is short name for Japanese Animation. Anime has been
around since the 1960s. You may have seen anime before but never knew what is
was exactly. Examples are Akira, Astro Boy
(Tetsuwan Atom), Speed Racer
(Mach Go Go), Gigantor, StarBlazers
(Space Battleship Yamato), Voltron (Go
Lion), Robotech (Macross, Southern
Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada), Ronin Warriors
(Samurai Troopers), Dragon Ball Z,
and Sailor Moon. Some of the more recent and popular
anime include Macross Plus, Armitage III, Tenchi Muyo, Ninja Scroll, Vampire
Hunter D, Bubblegum Crisis, Mobile Suit Gundam, Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin,
Neon Genesis Evangelion, Card Captor Sakura, and Ghost in the Shell. Anime has recently
grown popular in the U.S. starting around the early 1990s. Around 1997, another
anime became big craze in the US market, the name of this anime is called Pokémon
(Pocket Monsters). It is still popular today. In
the fall of 1999, another anime movie came to the big screen, it is called Princess
Mononoke (Mononoke Hime) In the year 2003, Studio
Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away
(Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi) won an Oscar
for the Best Animated Featured Film. Spirited
Away beats the Disney's movies of Treasure Planet and
Lilo and Stitch, and Dreamworks' Spirit: Stallion of the
Cimarron. On September 1, 2009, ADV (A.D. Vision) announced it was selling off its assets, including intellectual properties, to several companies.
Maybe anime will be in more movie theatres in the
future. Check out some the anime links to help you further develop your
